Guest Blogger: (Style Advice) Travel Like a Fashionista

I’m a firm believer in putting your best foot forward every day. Wanting to be comfortable doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style though. You can look good and feel great at the same time.

I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately and one of the places I see comfort take precedence over style most is at the airport. Sure, it isn’t the most glamorous place on earth but that doesn’t mean you can’t still look great. Take a few tips from some celebrities who seem to have discovered the perfect formula for traveling in style. They know that paired down basics and stylish but functional accessories are the way to go.

Start your look off with great basics. Leggings or stretchy jeans are my go-to because they’re comfortable enough to wear on a long flight. When it comes to a top, opt for something comfortable paired with a pretty slouchy sweater or a cardigan.

Now that you’ve got your comfortable base, accessories will really make or break your look. While I love layering on jewelry, resist the temptation so you can avoid a hassle at security. No one wants to be stuck behind the girl taking off a ton of jewelry, let alone be her. An oversized scarf is perfect for travel because it adds a finishing touch to your look and doubles as a blanket on colder flights.

When it comes to bags, I love a great carry-all. I usually opt for a satchel but cross-bodies and totes are great too. It just needs to fit all of your carry-on essentials.

Last but never least, shoes. Now don’t get me wrong, I worship heels but the airport definitely isn’t the place to break out your sky-high stilettos. You’re going to be doing quite a bit of walking so I recommend a stylish pair of flats or sandals. Boots also work well if you’re headed somewhere a bit more chilly. Not only are the more comfortable than heels but they’re also easy to slip off when you’re going through security.

Guest Blogger: Melisa Ramos

Meet Melisa Ramos ! :)

Hey Inked and Sewn readers! My name is Melisa and I’m so excited to be guest blogging for you. Over at my blog, Slice of Life, I write about all the little things that bring simple sweetness to my life and I can’t wait to share some of that here with you.

When it comes to the first love of my life, fashion, I really believe in using it to put your best foot forward every day. I’m rarely, if ever, caught in sweats unless it’s at the gym. I tend to gravitate towards looks that are simple and classic but have an unexpected twist to make them more unique. Since I’m graduating soon though, I’ve definitely been integrating a lot more work-appropriate but still chic basics into my wardrobe. Right now, I’m obsessed with bright colored, silk button-downs and casual looks paired with a sleek blazer.

I’m also a total foodie. I love cooking at home and am constantly trying out new recipes. I make pasta from scratch but am sadly notorious for burning toast. Ridiculous, isn’t it? When I’m not in the mood to break out my pots and pans though, I love going to some of my favorite Miami hotspots. While I can appreciate a good stack, most of my favorite places are low-key and surprise you with how good the food is.

Hopefully you’ll all enjoy reading all about my fashion finds and kitchen adventures this spring and will hop over to my little blog to check out some more!

Inspiration: Oscars 2012

I hope everyone had fun Oscar awards parties!

It was hard to choose my favorite considering there were so many breath-taking dresses but my all time favorite of the night would have to be Octavia Spencer.

Her dress is ideal for the "real woman" with REAL CURVES!
I absolutely loved it!

To see some commentary on what I thought about a few of my favorite looks check out the Facebook page.

Enjoy!

GUEST BLOGGER: ( Get This Look) Olivia Palermo

One of my all time favorite style icons is Olivia Palermo. She has an effortless way of wearing chic clothes that aren’t too revealing, while still looking sexy and glamorous. Her ensembles show off her petite skinny figure and make her toned legs look miles long. Every item that she twists into her wardrobe is classy and elegant with soft colors and bold accessories. She is FLAWLESS.

The look in this shot of Ms. Palermo is stunning, sensational and seems ideal for a College Fashionista's night out! Slick and skintight leather leggings worn underneath a billowy cream-colored blouse paired with pointy booties and peacock colored accessories made an ensemble that looked comfortable and pleasing to the eye. Do YOU want to know where you can find items that look similar to these while leaving your wallet a little heavier than you expected?? Check out these links…

GUEST BLOGGER: Lindy Maddox

Meet Lindy Maddox, a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.com...

My name is Lindy Maddox and I am currently a Junior majoring in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in PR Communications at East Carolina University. Ever since I was a little girl I have had a love of fashion. My closet is packed with colorful dresses, stylish skinny jeans, chic tops, artsy cardigans, and rows and rows of shoes.

Growing up, many magazines full of celebrities littered my floor as I poured through idea after idea of what to wear to school every day. My love of fashion sky rocketed my Freshman year of college as I learned how diverse the fashion at Universities could be. Due to the influence of blogs such as The Sartorialist, Fashion Toast and See Jane I decided to create my own blog where I feature my own fashion, and fashion I see around East Carolina University. On top of PPT I am also a Style Guru for College Fashionista, an intern with A Blonde Ambition fashion blog, and I write a fashion column for my school newspaper, The East Carolinian!

Check back tomorrow for Lindy's Get This Look Post :)

DIY: Accessories Wall

Because I am a shopaholic and college student living in a studio apartment, I constantly have to find creative ways to store my fashion finds.

A few weeks ago I was bored with my place and wanted to move around furniture. I also noticed my heels were literally pouring out of my closet and my necklaces were tangled on a hook.  A solution for both dilemmas was to create an accessory wall to make it easier to find what to pair my outfits while also decorating my place.

To keep the cost low I invested in two 3-shelf bookshelves from Target for $19.99 each.

With simple instructions and few pieces to assemble, both were put together in a matter of 20 minutes.

It is essentially 4 boards you screw together with adjustable shelves on pegs.

Next, it's time to build your necklace display.

What you will need:

I found all of my frames at my local Goodwill ranging from $7.99-$5.99 each and used black spray paint with a glossy finish from Michael's for $5.99.

Joanne's had a sale on black lace 30% a yard originally $5.99/yd, which left me with more than enough fabric for only $10.00.

Start out by laying down newspaper in a well ventilated area. I suggest you do this project outside because during my project I could definitely tell I was inhaling the fumes (if you know what I mean).

After applying an even coat let it dry and go back to touch up any imperfections. After it's completely dry take your staple gun and attach your fabric to the frame.

Hang your frames and place your thumbtacks where you want to hang your necklaces.

Throw in a few fashion books and and some fun candles to complete the space.

Now when anyone enters your room, not only will they LOVE your decor, they will know a true Fashionista lives there. Now that's what I call fashionable and functional. :)

ENJOY!

GUEST BLOGGER: (Style Advice) Denim

What I love about this outfit? It gives a very urban vibe, and each piece is very simple.
The denim piece adds the extra spice in the entire outfit.

I love denim pieces because they’re very classic, versatile and never old. Did I mention they’re inexpensive, too? This denim jacket was found at Buffalo Exchange, a trendy consignment store in downtown Fullerton, California. The colors are very coordinated and well put together. Olive and black are very bold, dark colors and adding the light blue from the denim vest complements the outfit wholly.

In fashion, there aren’t any rules, but some pieces are a better pair and fit than most. Notice there isn’t too much accessories that are taking place, but just the right amount of rings, a watch, bold bangle and a statement necklace.

Check back next week for another guest blogger's post.

Happy Valentine's Day !!!

GUEST BLOGGER: Panchary Sathea

Meet Panchary Sathea, a fashion forward student at California State Fullerton.

Currently finishing up school at CSUF as a Public Relations Major, and with that degree I want to get into event-planning and freelance writing. I have always been involved in organizations on campus throughout my high school and currently in college – I can’t seem to stay away from the busyness of it all. I am social network enthusiasts - I love Tumblr and Twitter. I love blogs!

I try to explore the different networks because I like to be up to date and stay informed. I am an open-minded individual and liberal in political views. Leisure activities include outdoor activities such as hiking and rock-climbing; other hobbies include photography. Adrenaline rushes are always exciting and fun! My ideal of a great day would be a great read and a refreshing green tea with the warm sun hitting my skin. Laughing is what I do best. And eating. And sleeping ...

So what is it about fashion that I love? Everything. There are ‘rules,’ but at the same time, there aren’t any boundaries. Fashion has always been a very large personal expression to me. As much your clothing describes the type of person you are, I like to admit my style is simple yet versatile. That alone describes me entirely

DIY: School Supplies with Style

I'm constantly tempted to buy school supplies with designer labels for ridiculous prices. After seeing the most adorable Hello Kitty Flash drive for $42.00, I decided to create my own for a price tag of no more then $15.00.

1. Pick your flash drive. I got a flash drive for free from my boyfriend, but you can use one you already have or buy ones for pretty cheap at your nearest Target.

2.Pick up some inexpensive rhinestones from a craft store or use some crystals you already have lying around from previous projects.

3. Choose a cute charm or larger found item.

4. Buy a Jewelry glue/ a Gem-Tac Glue. (Make sure to read the directions on the suggested dry time. The glue I used required 24 hours to dry on each side.)

5.When your flash drive is completely covered in rows of crystals use a clear topcoat nail polish to add some shine and secure them so they don't fall off.

This cute flash drive will definitely add a little more incentive to get my school work done :)

ENJOY!

GUEST BLOGGER:(Fashion Find) Sephora Palette

One of the things on my wish list last Christmas that had been abundantly answered was beauty loot. One gave me a really vivid matte red lipstick from MAC, another a fancy perfume bottle, and more products that ticked items off my list one by one. But what took the cake was what a friend of mine who had come home from the United States brought me: this multifunctional, convenient and sleek Color Flip Palette from Sephora.

It has three layers with three different functions and a gamut of very well-pigmented colors. The first layer contains all eyeshadows, and the hues range from natural to night – I use the lightest one for highlighting and the dark, matte brown can be applied as brow powder. The second tier holds the entire array of lipcolor, and I love how it has nude shades and creamy, glittery tints as well. The last is the blush and bronzer, which can be used separately and together. For lighter skin tones, the bronzer can be used to contour while for the darker-skinned it can be used as highlight as well. Here is a swatch of my favorite shades: (from L-R) bronzer, blush, a hot pink lipstick, and taupe shadow with some shimmer.

I love how this palette contains pretty much everything you need and with it you can quickly go from daytime look at school to evening glam at night. Though it doesn’t have your concealer, foundation, or mascara, it definitely makes more room in your makeup bag to stash your basic necessities – perfect for the girl-on-the-go.

GUEST BLOGGER: Isabelle Rodolfo

Meet Isabelle Rodolfo, a writer and editorial intern for CollegeFashionista.com as well as a beauty intern for StyleBible.Ph.

Isabelle Rodolfo is a Creative Writing junior at the Ateneo de Manila University. Years ago she was a timid thirteen-year-old proffered with confidence by a published article about nationalism in a local newspaper, not knowing she would eventually end up writing about fashion. Yet, the world seemed to conspire that she should learn to write about style and so some years ago she was brought to the doorstep of one the biggest media figures in her country, Summit Media. There, with ten or so other classmates she was talked and toured through the office, leaving her agape at the red brick-walled source of knowledge for our life manual, which back then was the teen Candy magazine. Several years after, she was back in the same office — the building a little older, the lobby teeming with more people. This time, she was no longer wide-eyed and hopeful high schooler, but the college level intern at Stylebible.PH — the online counterpart of the country’s leading fashion magazine, Preview: sitting at her boss’ desk, brows furrowed, thinking of what to type in to churn out good enough bits of the article she was assigned to.
But her life didn’t snap from then and now. In between, she was in several writing workshops from Writer’s Block Philippines to Heights, her university’s literary publication. She built up a concept blog, What’s In the Bag? and wrote about exactly that, what’s in the bag of the person featured, what was in her bag with a focus on beauty and accessories. In the summer of 2011 she contributed as well to the Manila Fashion Observer and was sent to fashion week to cover a show. After which, she was taken in under the wing of the beauty editor at Stylebible.PH and now she not only writes for CollegeFashionista but she is one of the editorial interns as well.
Though she is always looking for opportunities to reach her biggest ambitions, she knows she has yet to find out everything she needs to learn.  She will always look up to the fashion authorities – editors, designers, directors – who stand with their head high in the arena of style.
So excited to share Isabelle's post with you!
Check in tomorrow to read her review on a sleek color palette from Sephora.
