Act like a lady and put on some spikes...

A trend that has been very common is mixing ladylike prints and fabrics with some seriously tough spikes and studs...

These ladies chose to sport the spikes on their wrists but spikes can also be snuck into an outfit in a necklace or bag.

Lucky Magazines July 2011 issue featured a Swarovski Pearl Spike Necklace for a hefty $178 on Joomilim.com, but cant say its not worth it after seeing it.

Surfing the web I found a Jessica Buurman, Burberry inspired spike clutch. The masculine touch to a flirty outfit will remind people that you may be nice but when it comes to fashion you mean business ;).

The next time you're wondering what to wear with your sweet polka-dotted skirt or floral dress remember that real ladies wear spikes.

Chain Chain Chain...Chain of Fashion

The item that keeps appearing on blogs and fashion websites is the body chain!

The first time I saw it was when I was searching for ways to wear my new brooch ( in my earlier post) on Lookbook

LUV AJ has a whole section on their website dedicated to fulfilling your body-chain fashion needs.

While LUV AJ prices can range from $132.00-$300.00, there is a cheaper alternative.
Yes.. you guessed it.. DIY!

monoxious.com Shows you step by step how to create this look yourself for a lot cheaper.

Gimme Your Brooch Granny...

News flash!! Brooches and lapel pins are not just for the elderly. This accessory has made comebacks time and time again and each time with vengeance. Remember grandma's old pins she wore on the lapel of her skirt suit? This same style with a little twist has made its way back into fashion once again.

While in Bakersfield visiting a friend, we went downtown for some iced coffee. As soon as we parked I could tell that this is where the "artsy people" congregated. People of all ages with guitars played in the cafe and strolled along the streets lined with vintage shops. I knew there had to be the reason that this was "the spot" for all the creative minds, and I found that reason when I stopped into a vintage shop. I made my way over to the $5 section ( because I'm always looking for a deal) and found the most adorable gold lapel pin.

One woman's trash is another woman's treasure....(DIY)!

After going through my Jewelry armoire I found a few broken pieces that I was about to toss until I realized I could turn them into something brand new!!!

I used :
-A broken fabric necklace with a clasp at the end ( and removed one side).
-3 spools of thread
-a broken crystal bracelet
-and chains that only God knows what they used to be attached to

I first started out by taking the crystal bracelet and cutting the elastic bands that held the crystals close together until they began to hang freely. You can see the part where I cut and what parts were still held tightly together.

I next lined the crystal strand up with the fabric necklace and started wrapping the thread around it a few times to bind the two pieces together. When I felt they were bound together well enough, I strung it once through the chain and moved onto the next link.

After finishing four spaces with one color, I moved to the next and alternated between the 3 colors of thread. At the very end of the bracelet I re-attached the chain that was on the other end of the necklace rope to allow the clasp to hold the bracelet closed by stringing the thread through a link and tying it a few times until it was tight.

Now I have a brand new bracelet.

This is proof that with a little DIY magic, there is no such thing as broken jewelry.

Ice Cream Cones and Summer Tones...

Fashion bloggers everywhere are showing their sense of style with clothes reminiscent of sweet ice-cream scoops...

Blair of Atlantic-Pacific wears a short flowing dress with large light stripes.

I found this trendsetter on Lookbook.nu.
Blogger Anastasia is dressed in a partially shear top with ballet flats.

...and my personal favorite..

Jenny sports orange sherbet skinny jeans, nude strappy heels and a shirt and cardigan that  were made to be worn together.

The best thing about these styles are even on the hottest of days, you don't have to worry about them melting before you can enjoy them.

THE FASHiON GODS DO EXiST!!!

If you read my last post, you already know that one of the items that has been haunting me is lace shorts. Every outfit I put together seemed to be lacking that amazing (way too expensive) perfectly scalloped pair. As I was seconds away from making a homemade one,  The fashion gods appeared!

There in front of me without as much as a warning lay the PERFECT PAIR!

PERFECT COLOR , PERFECT SIZE and even more important.. A PERFECT PRICE AT $29.00!

It was the last one in the store just waiting for me to walk in and buy it! Its at these moments in time when you know pieces like this were MEANT to be in your closet. Without hesitation i whipped out my credit card and *SWIPE* it was mine. :)

As you can tell by all my capital letters, I'm ecstatic.

Although I someday want to make my own white pair, these babies need to be taken around the block once or twice before I can bring in some competition.

SUMMER STEALS!

My favorite item from E! online Summer Fashion Guide 2011 was this adorable dip-dyed fringe necklace from Juicy Couture!

www.mystyle.com

On a college budget you can't always shell out 98$ for a fabulous necklace so I found a few other budget friendly options .

Free People ($38.00)

Target ($29.00)

Forever-21 ($9.80)

Lucky for me... my favorite one of the bunch is also the cheapest!!!

This summer, don't be afraid to add a little fringe to your outfit... trust me, it will look good on you. :)

Alexander McQueen (Savage Beauty)....

While I was in New York, I made it clear I was not stepping foot back onto a plane back to the west coast unless I went to the MET Museum and saw Alexander McQueen's exhibit.

AND I GOT MY WAY!!!

Even though security made it VERY clear not to take pictures of his artwork, my hand had a life of its own and stole a few shots. ( I KNOW! SO BAD!)

These shoes on the mirrored stage make it difficult to see that it has an incredible shaped platform!!

This dress was made completely of shells! I didn't even know it was possible to make something so beautiful.

Unless you experience the creepy, overwhelming yet unbelievably amazing atmosphere you will never understand what it was like to be there.

Its clear there will NEVER be another Alexander McQueen.
